Loodswezen is a maritime organisation with a public task that continuously strives to increase its level of service. Quality and flexibility are key components of the organisation. On a daily basis approximately 470 registered pilots ensure the safe and swift handling of shipping traffic entering and leaving Dutch ports and Flemish ports on the river Scheldt.

Next year will see Loodswezen’s 25th anniversary as an independent body. That will be cause for a celebration because the organisation’s future looks promising now that Maasvlakte 2 is being created to extend the port of Rotterdam. Loodswezen’s registered pilots will advise on the new part of the port and help optimise its logistics.

The Day of the Seafarer, annually staged on the 25th of June, is a tribute to all seafarers around the world. This year, the emphasis will be on the impact seafarers have on the everyday lives of people.
